What would you do if it happened to you?
It happened to me. I can't do anything about it because the person is far away. If he lived close then I'd try reach out for him and if he made it clear that he wants nothing to do with me then I'd leave it. You can't force a person. But if people are far away, then you can't do anything, you just have to accept it and forget about the relationship like nothing ever happened. Painful but it works.
