I guess it depends on how close you are and the reasoning for the lie, If the truth is going to come out I think you should be honest from the beginning especially to this close to you so you can avoid pain but if the secret is small and will always stay hidden simply for people to not get hurt then I think it's okay to not tell the whole truth, That being said I can't really lie to the people I'm really close with
