no, she wasn’t worried. she didn’t rly know ab mike’s reputation, all she knew was that he’s more of a loner but nothing ab what went down in school. she knew ted & didn’t like him but that never clouded her judgement ab mike bc he was just a kid. her asking if she’s dating mike had less to do w her not trusting him but more to get the confirmation directly from el, which is why she was so excited to get to know him & gave him a huuuge hug when they first met 🥺
she determined whether she thought he’s good for el during christmas, where he definitely got approved by joyce. it took only a couple days for her to absolutely adore him !

idk how much u can talk about this here but what happened when ad el walked in on lucas and max😭😭 it’s briefly mentioned and seems to have rly traumatized el wolfhardsbb
el forgot some study books in max’s dorm from their study session the day before & she needed them that day again, so she texted max, max gave her the ok to come over & pick them up, el went over to her dorm, max’s roommate was just leaving the dorm so she sneaked in (also just to visualize it: max’s dorm is on a different wing than el’s, therefore their rooms r also cut different. the beds in el’s dorm r in the same space but she has a bigger kitchen & bathroom area / in max’s dorm the two beds r separate (they have their own room) but have a smaller kitchen & bathroom area) & bc max gave her the ok to come in earlier, she just quickly knocked and opened max’s door immediately & was met with max & lucas almost going at it ☠️ w their a$$ cracks full on display she was scarred for life !

hawkins is a small town so everyone knows everyone ! when karen was suddenly gone everyone assumed that they’d divorced. ted’s been known for being rude and not the most social so obv joyce never rly liked him. she obv didn’t know what was going on in school & w mike at home though, if she even knew that mike was getting bullied this badly, she’d be that one person to step in. no doubts

god i’d love to write a lil prequel ab everything that went on before the canon timeline of ad, especially the times lucas & max first started dating (& obv mike & el’s early relationship to another) cause everything lays there truly.
her abandonment issues stem from the fact that her parents divorced v early & her dad started a new family almost immediately, nearly totally discarding max from his life. on top of that, she’s never had close friendships during school & often would get thrown aside in favor of “better” friendships. it actually fcxked her up a lot but starting a friendship w el & all the boys healed that broken part (,: not to mention how much lucas means to her, which is why she’s so scared he’d also just get bored of her eventually & discard her (see: chap 8 + chap 11)
also el is like her first true friend that’s why she’s so overprotective when it comes to her (+jealous) as u can see in chap 27 or chap 29 !

no bc his bruises weren’t as bad in the beginning as they were when he got older ! ted is callous but not stupid, he didn’t aim much for the face but more on places he knew would be covered - which is what mike always did. he wore hoodies to hide them, retreated more into a shell & already had the golden boy of the school hating him/encouraging others to believe his twisted opinion on mike.
but the more years passed, the more careless ted started getting. his problem w alcohol got worse which is why he lost his temper more often & took his anger out on mike instead. by the time the beatings got worse, mike already had a certain reputation so no one really questioned anything

i’ve had a bit of a hyperfixation during middle school but grew out of it w time, her interest is inspired by a friend of mine who had brought up greek mythology during a conversation & told me stories i never knew before ! i thought that it was so interesting for someone to just know these stories & made a bit of a deep dive into it as well to add it into se el’s character. it felt so in line to me w her believing in miracles, fate, etc. greek mythology just fit in !

it’s that typical scenario of u wanting to runaway from home after arguing w ur parents. . . w the difference that holly actually ran away for a while ☠️
at 11 she got into trouble by coming home past her curfew & she got so emotional over it that she packed her bags, sneaked out of home at night & went to the treehouse of her friend to sleep the night there. karen woke up in a frenzy in the morning & freaked out 😭 she nearly called the police after calling each of holly’s friends parents to check if she went there. eventually soon after it got revealed that she’s in the treehouse ☠️
neither mike nor nancy were there when it happened so it turned into a fun little story to tell ☠️

i have it roughly written in my notes 😭 but basically when el tripped & let the drink spill on his shoes, she was so shocked that it took her a while to process what happened meanwhile mike snapped w a “what the fvck, watch ur fvcking steps”, she wanted to apologize for spilling the drink but the second she heard him be a b!tch, she snapped back at him - both too proud to apologize for their reactions. it just snowballed from there the more they interacted in the future
max started to apologize on el’s behalf instead & lucas apologized on mike’s behalf, they hit it off from there (so ad lumax happened thx to ad mileven being annoying actually !)

they dated for almost 8-9 months before breaking up shortly before the end of senior year; no big drama, they just didn’t connect that well romantically & both accepted that instead of dragging it out esp w them leaving for different states for college !
