The answer 'no' was in responce to when you said i think we should help these people. Let me make that clear. Also, temporary visas for 6 months - 1 year allows these people some time to re-establish themselves, get in contact with home and then potentially re settle in Australia. Having said that, you have to be realistic. Chris Bowen of the labor party said that Australia could not take every asyulm seeker or boat person. Australia, or any country cannot simply take everyone.

The 'USA way' is clearly ineffective and inefficient seeing as though that's why a lot of asylum seekers have been kept in detention centres in this country for over three years (as the way you propose sounds similar to the old)
Id like to put it to you. Boat arrivals saw a significant rise under labor. The Howard governments approach kept boats from arriving and drownings. What solution do you propose?

No. If it were up to me, I would have provided temporary asylum into Australia. The USA way is to allow boat people to come in and it is up to them to prove to the Government if they are legitimate asylum seekers.

Well I think the previous government made it easy for boat arrivals. It will be interesting to see if Abbott and Morrison can figure this one out. Big Clive Palmer suggested we should take the USA way
