what's so bad about free speech?
this whole thing has been taken out of context... People should have the freedom to say what they like (free speech) as long as they aren't being *exist, racist, homophobic, or targeting any groups/individuals. If what you say/type is going to hurt someone mentally, then it shouldn't be said/typed at all. Don't tell me that free speech means you can say whatever you want, because that's ignorance, not free speech. There is a limit to what you can say. Free speech might mean being free to say whatever you want, but what about when it leaves the other person/group of people feeling trapped (not free), and feeling like suicide is the only way to escape? "it's a free country" or "I have freedom of speech" they say, as they torment the helpless minds of others, as they push them further and further into a pit of despair and self loathing. The receiver of these hateful messages that claim to be 'free speech' aren't the only victims, their family and friends are too. If your freedom of speech means standing up for yourself, a group of people, or a certain individual, then feel free to speak your mind. However, the moment you put down another human being for being born into a certain group, or being born a certain way, then you have successfully crossed the line where you can no longer use "freedom of speech" as an excuse for your tainted words. No one should be made to feel like **** for being who they are. But if they are made to feel like **** because they were proven wrong, then tough luck. To those who are still using "free speech" or "freedom of speech" as an excuse to bully people, please educate yourselves. <3
